Mercury Removal Update

I have to tell you, I still can’t believe this! I am 3 months post amalgam removal and feeling the same relief I felt right after they were removed! How this affects my Hashimotos Thyroiditis will not be known for a bit longer as I had some trouble detoxing after the removal (couldn’t afford the recommended detox regimen) and I am currently doing some detox strategies through my GAPS consultant which won’t be completed until likely the end of October.

But since I have not yet done a second update on how I am feeling after the removal of the amalgams, I thought I’d post just a quick one until I can do a repeat mercury test and a full thyroid panel which can be compared to pre-removal testing. Once those are done, I hope to give a detailed comparison which will outline the specific symptoms that have been relieved through this process. If you missed the first post on my mercury poisoning, check it out here.

Immediately after I had my amalgams removed (beginning at the first of the four quadrants and the one measured with the highest charge), my ability to digest improved over night! This is still the case. I have not had bloating, pain, or any digestive complaints since removal.  I waited for this post to make sure there was not a “placebo” effect going on. I am so amazed at this change! Secondly, I was having dizziness, extremely unsteady gait, and the feeling of not being able to stay conscious after eating anything! I also had a rapid resting heart rate of over 120 which accelerated to crazy levels just by standing up! So I was all but bedridden prior to these removals! Not to mention a very high blood pressure which got to 200/101 numerous times preceding the removals. These were serious symptoms which lead me to the amalgam removal question. I had tried everything I could think of before that. My heart rate also significantly went down, and by the last removal, I was moving around freely once more! My blood pressure hit normal for the first time in 15 years measured at my doctor’s office about one month after the final removal! I am so glad I chose to have them removed. None of those symptoms are present besides occasional slight dizziness or feeling a bit “off”. I do believe that the mercury has not fully been purged from my body as I was unable to do a proper detox throughout the procedure. I am now doing what I can to detox as much as possible.

Once I get the testing done, I will see how the mercury load is on my body but there is no doubt in my mind that the constant onslaught of mercury through chewing my food has been eliminated. This makes me very happy! I believe the relief came from stopping this onslaught. There is also no doubt it will take months to years to detox a considerable amount of the mercury that was present in my organs and body throughout the many years I was carrying these poisonous fillings in my mouth.

All in all, I am finally stable and the healing is so obviously happening! I do encourage others to consider their fillings as a possible link to illness. I can’t guarantee you will have the same results I have experienced, but sometimes we have no choice but to take the risk to think “outside the box” when we are desperate for help. For me, the risk was worth every penny! I am alive and I am healing!

As you are aware, I am on the GAPS Diet so I will be posting here and there on my journey through this healing phase of my life. I will also continue to post helpful links to interviews with experts on thyroid disorders and other informative content that might be of help to others. If you are on the GAPS Diet and would like to comment on your journey, I would be honored to hear from you!

Here’s to your health! May you continue to find answers for your particular health challenges!

I have a question, not comment. I would like to know how you felt for the day of and days and weeks after the removals? Also were you concerned about the danger of getting them removed while having these very serious symptoms? What did your Dr. say about you getting these removed (very serious procedure) and the symptoms you were having (very serious)?

Hello (I’m sorry I didn’t see your name on your comment): You might want to see my other post on the mercury removal if you haven’t. I began to feel better after the first removal (the first quadrant). My dentist measured that quadrant as the most significant charge. So we deliberately did that one first. By the last removal which was done over a period of a month (never having an appointment on a day that would conflict with the 7 day healing cycle), I was feeling so much better I couldn’t believe it. After the very first removal, I was able to eat without bloating for the first time in months, if not years! My doctor(s), I had at least 3 helping me, all felt it was a good decision, even though I was apprehensive. The only other option I had that anyone could see was to take Beta Blockers but I KNEW the heart rate issue began while on a detox diet which lead me to believe that perhaps mercury was being released faster than my body could process it. It was the best guess anyone had. I was so happy to see the results and to this day (almost about 5 months later), I have not had another digestive issue since! I hope that answers your question. Also, I made sure the dentist I went to was one that took all safety precautions for mercury removal as seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgIUrj7s3PA

I was very interested in this post, because I also had my fillings removed a few months back. I felt like I had thyroid issues a few years back, but instead was diagnosed with pcos, elevated liver enzymes, very low ferritin, and I felt bad most of the time. I was chronically tired, had sinus drainage, couldn’t sleep (even though I was exhausted) my periods stopped for 4 months (I had been missing periods for many years). A gynecologist gave me progesterone to help me start a period. I had bad headaches, heart palpitations, bloating alot, etc. My doctor has helped me with alot of vitamins, and vitamin iv’s etc. I am alot better, but I haven’t taken the chelation challenge he recommended, but opted to have my fillings removed anyway. Because of low basal body temperatures, and other thyroid symptoms I suspected mercury. I have been thinking on the gaps diet (already gluten and dairy free). I have also been considering Dr. Pompa. He has a website and many videos on the internet. He is known for detox. (He suffered from mercury poisoning himself). I wondered how you felt about using dmsa for detox. Also, if you are doing anything specific for detox. I haven’t been tested yet either, so I don’t know if that is important. I would love to know what you thought. I understand that you are not a doctor, and that I am responsible for my own decisions. 🙂 Also the dr. tells me from my blood tests that my thyroid is fine, but my adrenals were low. He also said that my lyme’s disease testing was suspicious. Thank you for reading all this!!

HI Kristie – Boy are you right! I am not a doctor. 🙂 But I still have opinions and I’d be happy to share them with you! I want to take another mercury test to see if my levels have gone down enough for me to stop worrying so much about specific heavy metal detoxing (I am hoping to concentrate more on a healing diet allowing for rebuilding of the body). But finances are tight and I am currently waiting for the beginning of the new year when our insurance will cover these things again. So, I am indirectly answering your question about how important the metal testing might be. For me, it would relieve me to know it has gone far down from where it was and help guide me for the next steps in my healing journey. But since everyone has different motivations, that is still a personal opinion geared towards my personality. So, if you feel it would make you feel better to know it is not a problem anymore, it might be a good thing to find out. As far as chelating drugs, I am resisting them and don’t expect to go that route HOWEVER, if my mercury test does not come out far better than last time, I may change my mind but I don’t expect a disappointing outcome. I am very curious to find out however.

Many of your symptoms can be consistent with leaky gut so looking seriously into the GAPS Diet sounds like a great idea to me! For me, gluten free wasn’t enough as is the case for many, many sufferers. Did your doctor check your thyroid antibodies by any chance? Just wondering. Feel free to jump on over to my FB page where it might be easier to post comments and questions for a quicker response and others may also be able to chime in and give you their thoughts.

I also highly recommend a Functional Medicine doctor if you don’t feel you are getting enough help through your current doctors. I hope this helped a bit. Keep up the good work! You are doing a great job finding solutions to your symptoms. I have found that the GAPS Diet has addressed a great percentage of my symptoms alone but it is always wise to look into other treatment options. Here’s a great post I read this week which I believe hits other main issues to look into while using diet as much as possible. Thank you for your comment!

Wow! Thank you for all that information! What would the blood test look like that tests for thyroid antibodies? (I have many pages of blood tests over the last few years, but I am not sure what I am looking for.
I guess one of my main thoughts about starting the gaps diet is this-the diet takes alot of time and some money also, and I would hate to work that hard in that direction only to find out I was wasting my time until I get rid of mercury. I have heard that the war with candida can be won the same time as the war with the mercury, but that candida cannot be won over if mercury is a big problem. I have also heard that a person cannot release heavy metals without knocking the candida back. So, I don’t know what to think. Also, Dr. Pompa treats with dmsa (Cutler Protocol) and I am not sure what I think about that. My doctor chelates with IV’s. I have been praying for direction, and I thank you for your input!

Kristie, do not do iv chelation! Bad idea very bad! Oral chelation is key here(cutler, Pompa protocol)….
