My name is Shannon Coates-Layne I work for Access Biologicals in San Diego, CA and I’m a patient recruiter. Our study consists of having individuals with Hashimoto’s donate their plasma for research and diagnostic development of testing kits. With their participation would be helping to also diagnose others with Hashimoto. We do need to find individuals with severely high levels to donate and each time they would be compensated $300.

We have locations throughout the USA and donor participation is performed in accordance with the current FDA regulations and overseen by a Physician onsite, participants care is always a top priority. These antibodies/antigens (TPO/Tg) are collected through a process called plasmapheresis; this procedure is similar to donating whole blood (i.e. Red Cross). But plasma is the protein based substance that your blood cells float around in (that contains these antibodies/antigens), the difference is your blood cells and platelets are returned to you. Your body will regenerate plasma collected within 24 hours; the FDA would allow you to donate twice in a seven day period. We recommend hydration and eating a protein based meal prior to donating. Each donation will take about 30-45 minutes and we recommend music or a book for some light reading.

I have read articles on the Lupus foundation that plasmapheresis was beneficial to those with an Autoimmune disease and was wonder if this might be beneficial to someone with Hashimoto? Have you read or heard anything to that nature as I was curious?
