Hashimotos Thyroiditis and A Not to Miss Podcast with Dr. Peter Osborne

I knew it would come to this someday! What I mean is that after listening to the following podcast, I am so convinced I am on the right road, and this interview with Dr. Peter Osborne really confirmed it, that I know I need to deliver information that is not very popular, but necessary.  Are we going to be excited to hear what actually works for Hashimotos Thyroiditis? Probably not at the beginning. But after feeling relief and comfort from just knowing there are answers, it will keep us learning more about how diet can be one of the most powerful healing tools we have.

What concerned me the most when listening to this podcast was the honest truth that my thyroid medication might not be keeping me truly gluten free. The filler in mine is corn. I used to be concerned about it but then after listening to other gluten experts, I just stopped worrying when I determined that as long as it wasn’t wheat, rye, barley or oat based, I was okay. But this interview convinced me that it’s time to get a compounded version that steers me clear of all forms of gluten, including that which is in corn, that might still be causing me some problems.

Also in this podcast is a LOT of talk about thyroiditis and several callers asking questions I would have loved to ask the doctor myself regarding Hashimoto’s Disease. So I had to share it with you all!

I feel much more prepared to take the next steps in my already successful journey towards healing. It’s great to feel more in control over my symptoms, finally! Don’t make the mistake I did earlier in my diagnoses and believe gluten free doesn’t work, because if you’re like me, you may not have truly gone gluten free without realizing it yet. If you see this post from way back when I first started exploring gluten free, I think you can see that I suspected other grains, and other components of the diet I may not have really understood and it appears my hunches were right. And what is truly gluten free? Are all grains possibly at culprit? These are questions Dr. Osborne attempts to answer and based on my experience, I believe he is right on in most of what he is saying (from a long time sufferer’s experience myself).

Here’s the podcast:

A big thank you to Underground Wellness for continually bringing us pertinent information to help us with healing. My biggest “ah ha” moments have come from podcasts brought to us by Sean Croxton!

For those unsure if diet really helps, my only advice is to try it yourself first before making a judgment. It’s really hard to say good-bye to some of your favorite foods but when you open up your palette to new ideas, the variety of food you can eat is so much wider than you originally believed.

I have a question for all of you out there which will help me deliver more of the information you would like to read:

Do you mind a post here and there which is food related? I mean a post that talks about how to plan ahead for healthy eating and creative food ideas? I want to make sure I stay on target. I know many of you are not gluten free and especially are not grain and sugar free but would you like to include more of these choices on your menu? If so, what do you need most help with? Comment below and it will help me determine what information to include with future posts. Oh, and feel free to comment on Dr. Osborne’s interview. I found it fascinating!

Have a great weekend!

I would welcome recipes. I was just diagnosed this week and it is a shock to go from eating anything to gluten free. Thank you for your website.

That was great. Thank you so much for this. I’m so glad I found your blog. I was so excited to hear at the end of the podcast that people do go into full remission and get off medication. Are you aware of any info sources that talk about healthy strategies for going off medication? I have been taking it for 20 years, but don’t have antibodies anymore, so I wonder if I can just stop and see what happens? I suppose I ought to find a good functional medicine practitioner though, but would love to spare the expense if possible. I have no other health problems.

Hi Annette (I’m assuming that is your name so forgive me if it’s not),

That’s absolutely WONDERFUL you have no antibodies anymore! What did they used to be? Come on over to our Facebook support page to encourage others with your story! The thing is on the meds is that you still need to have adequate thyroid hormone circulating and your TSH numbers will tell you when your meds can be dropped, if they can. I am still on them but I have only been seriously healing for a year. I expect it to take a while to see just how much damage the thyroid has undergone over the last 20 plus years. But I have heard that organs can actually rebuild over 7 years so I am thinking it “could” take more time for me to see complete remission, if that is possible, and I believe it is. However, once our body makes antibodies to something, this process can re-occur at anytime in our lives if we have serious stress or change our diet back to the unhealthy one we used to be on. So, we have to stay diligent in the healing stages and maintain this level of awareness in times of stress. Hope you can come over to the support group and share your story. 🙂 Thank you for your comment.
