Hashimotos Thyroiditis: Before and After GF and GAPS Pictures

Happy 50th Birthday to me!

As promised, here are the before and after pictures. I started the true Gluten Free diet in May 2011 as documented in my post at that time. The following picture of me is from September of 2011. This was 4 months after starting the true gluten free diet and learning traditional food preparation (based on the ideas in the book Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon) through the eCourse I have been telling you all about which I still take weekly! That class was the very beginning of my much healthier diet. In the picture below, I was already losing some weight but you will still get an idea of how much weight I lost overall. I want to stress that I was not concentrating on losing weight and have never been, but rather desiring to minimize the effects of Hashimotos Thyroiditis. I have been seeking health and hoping that with health would come weight loss. And it has sure happened that way!

Before GF and GAPS September 2011

And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for! My after picture below is from a few days ago (June 2013) on my way to my niece’s graduation. This picture reflects the journey from Gluten Free to the GAPS Diet and now beyond (as I am thinking about the Paleo Autoimmune Protocol to further my health progress)! But for now, I am happy with the results thus far! In fact, I don’t think I fully appreciated the journey enough until I put these two pictures together which I will include at the end of this post.

And if you haven’t read my prior post which explains this journey in greater detail, you can read about it here. If you have your own success story, please share in the comments below or on our Facebook Support Group page!

Hi Lester664 (I’m sorry I didn’t see your name), Thank you so much! I still take Naturethroid but my focus at this time in on the antibody attack so I am not concerned at the moment with thyroid hormone reduction. I love that idea of posting a day of eating on my blog! I will try to do that very soon. Thank you for the suggestion! Here’s the closest post to that idea though for your review. Take care!

I’m a new follower, found you through Wardee’s podcast. You have no idea what your blog means to me.
I’m a 32 yr old mother of 3, with each pregnancy riddled with health issues after health issue. I found out during my 3rd one that I am actually DX’d with Hashi, instead of ‘just’ thyroid problems. I could pull out a laundry list of ills, but I’m sure you know what many of them are!
I identified with your podcast so much, I was in tears. I’m going to be spending time on your blog here, and learn what I can.

I have done horribly this year on my health journey, but I have taken small steps. Now to just continue them…one by one.

    Thank you,

    Peggy

Peggy – you have no idea what your comment means to ME! THIS is why I do this “blogging” thing. I have hoped to help others get better quicker for years! It’s just that until the last two years it was like the blind leading the blind!!!! LOL NOW, I feel I can help others get to the right help as fast as possible. It’s a pleasant path when you begin to feel better so I am determined to keep trying to get the word out. The “temporal” things like eliminating wheat and changing our diet is nothing to feeling better and gaining clarity in the mind. I wonder what parts you identified to the most? Feel free to join my Facebook Support Group where there is so much shared and as I find helpful videos, podcasts and tips, I also post them there! I’m so happy to “meet” you and so happy to hear from you too! You can do this! You WILL get better. Hang in there. Drop me a personal message on FB too and you can tell me a bit more about your journey thus far. ๐Ÿ™‚ Take care and Merry Christmas!
