I was dx'ed about 8 months ago with hashis nad through a string of bad communication between docs have only been on armour for about 5 months regularly.  my tsh numbers went up a bit (still in mormal range) around december 15th-my doc upped my dose and on dec. 27th I woke with the worst joint pain in wrist and knees, elbows, etc.  I went back down to the smallest dose of armour (compounded armour that is) and started feeling better.  She thought the pain was caused by my period coming on (every month 10 days prior to period my body hurts like nobody's business) so she upped me back to the same dose from the 17th and said stop if you have any trouble. Well today I took that dose nad about 8 hours after taking it my wrist literally gave OUT.  Where I am not in a splint.  I know it isn't fractured or broken as I was at the doc two days ago to check it for pain...he said inflammation most likely from hashis.
Is it even remotely possible for hashis or armoud to cause THIS MUCH  pain in a localzed  area?? I am hitting rock bottom with this illness if this is REALLY what is causing this.
I would type my total history and all the negative tests I have had for MS, lupus, any rheumatologic issues, etc etc but my wrist is done for the day so I am right handing it all.
I am feeling VERY VERY hopeless.
Sad

Hello Carmen,

I am so sorry for your pain. It sounds like you are really going through a challenging time.

For the sake of time and not really knowing your situation too well, a couple things come to my mind.

1. It sounds like you might need a second opinion - your doctor might not be familiar enough with thyroid problems or Armour - which reminds me, are you sure you are getting Armour? There is a severe shortage right now and I wasn't aware that Armour was available.

2. Inflammation localized like that sounds a bit like a repetition syndrome like carpal tunnel syndrome. I wonder if that has been considered? Here's a link for that information:

http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/carpal_tunnel/detail_carpal_tunnel.htm

Have you used this wrist repetitively in the past for a job or other regular sport activity?

3. Inflammation is a main issue with Hashimoto's but it's hard to say if it's all to blame for your symptoms.

It's totally worth getting a second opinion - please consider a natural doctor - they tend to see the whole body at one time where one that concentrates on the thyroid only might be missing other possible root issues.

Read my article posted on the top of the forum "How to live better with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis" and take time to read my main webpage home page. I also have a blog that might have some ideas for you.

I hope this has helped a bit. I am not sure that going back and forth with the dose of thyroid meds has been good for your body. Seek out another source of help - it's worth every penny. Ask around at your local health food store for doctors that are known to tackle thyroid problems, consider a NAET doctor (you will see info on my blog about that) and go over the steps in my article mentioned above to see if there are any other culprits that might be contributing to your symptoms.

You didn't mention your age but hormonal issues can be checked through a natural doctor too in case you are concerned about that.

I wonder what the "normal" range for TSH is for your doctor. That is also debatable these days.

Hang in there - there is hope!
