Hi all!

I just had my first visit with a naturopath.  I really didn't know what to expect, even though I had met him and heard some of his philosophies and methods of treatment, I was very optimistic.  I already have a medical doctor, who treats me for my clinical thyroid conditions, but am looking to enhance my overall health. I realized that this would be an all out of pocket expense, but was dismayed to learn that among the consultation costs at $120/ hr...(when an hour had passed, I starting tuning him out completely and thinking about my bank account)... during the visit he asked me to find and purchase a saliva kit at $200 or so and was asked to get an array of  blood tests at about $600 (which my insurance will not cover).  When I told him that it would be financially impossible at this time, he said that until I could afford the tests, I could do a basic test from a website and purchase a program for $100/month.  Basically I am wondering if it is common for patients to have to provide their own testing, or if naturopathic clinics typically do their own testing.  I am not trying to underestimate his abilities or experience, I just feel as though the only way to get the help I'm looking for will be to win the lottery.  I don't doubt it isn't worth it, but it's hard to think of a time when I'll be able to come up with the extra money.

Overall, he was enthusiastic and compassionate towards my condition and I appreciated that very much.  He listened to me and explained a lot of technical things about thyroid disease and adrenal fatigue-- t4, t3, rt3--which i have to be honest, I still don't get very well.  I walked away with some good advice, references and a list of things to buy.

I am just wondering about other people's experience, whether it's been positive?? Indifferent??  What kind of tests you had done?

Thanks,

Jenny

Hi Jenny, I really think this is awfully expensive. I am not sure about naturopath buy my chinese medical practicioner only charges $50 per hour and the medication cost $10 and last a month. The only test he asked was Urine and that was $14 (all AUD - but the difference is not that much).

If I was in your situation I would check, if possible, for testimonials from his previous patients. I went to mine after a friend told me how much progress she has found.

Are you doing any excercise to calm yourself down? I have noticed that can help, very slowly but it helps at least to calm the thoughts.

Regards,

Hi Jenny,

I, too, agree that the cost is too much (unless someone happens to be rolling in the dough) to go to that Naturopath. It is worthwhile to keep checking around to other doctors in your area. It is not uncommon for Naturopath's to ask for a whole slew of tests but I couldn't afford that avenue either. I am extremely excited about my NAET treatment as she uncovers the sluggish bodily functions and treats them as we go thereby stretching out my money over time instead of all it once. You might desire to get a consultation with a NAET doctor in your area. I am very satisfied with the treatment. You can look for a doctor in your area here:

www.naet.com

Forgive me if I've already given you this information. I've been a bit distracted lately. A consultation with a NAET practicioner shouldn't cost more than $150.00. Mine was $75.00 but where you live will dictate their prices.

Can you remind me of your main health concerns? Are you on a natural thyroid supplement? Or are you on a synthetic?

One of the hardest things to do with Hashimoto's (in my experience) has been to find a good "team" of health consultants. I look at it as "it's MY body, and MY money". I need to find doctors who let me determine the best choice based on the options. You need to thoroughly  understand your choices of action and then you need to be respected for your decisions and worked with to accomplish the goals of healing. A doctor who acts as though you are obligated to comply with them is not, in my experience, a good choice. The bottom line is that you feel like you are the decision maker based on the professional options available to you. Get more than one consultation and spend you time and money working to employ "the plan" to take control of your health and feel like you are in control of your chosen road to healing.

I hope this helps. Also, if you are struggling with emotions (like most of us) consider the free resources in learning EFT on the net. My favorite beginners course is at:

http://www.tapping.com/videos.html

It's absolutely astounding to see the results in the way you look at life after tapping on issues that have been bugging you. To look at them in a logical, non-emotional way, is not only disfusing the negative emotional response in your thought process but keeping your body from manifesting these things in symptoms you will have to deal with along the way. It's just wonderful to have a tool like this. You can also download the manual for FREE from the EFT website at emofree.com but I am a visual learner so I have learned everything from the videos. If you become real serious about dealing with deep-seeded emotional pain from the past, I would recommend getting the EFT videos (at least the beginning set) to help you learn how to move through the "layers" of healing that EFT provides.

Have a great day.
