Hi Mo et all!

So, today was my second visit with my new doc, a Naturopathic Physician.

Like you've been saying, Mo--food allergy & leaky gut! No surprise, I guess.

Last visit, she drew my blood for an E85 basic food panel (thru Meridian Valley). Practically every food showed a blip on the radar, indicating leaky gut. Egg white was off the charts with yolks right behind. Not what I wanted to see but, frankly for me, cutting out eggs is a lot easier than gluten or dairy!

Hashimoto's makes sense now and also seems possible to beat. My thyroid has not been severly damaged yet, so there is hope!

My adrenal 24 hr saliva tests showed to be sluggish though not completely fatigued. I am still producing a decent amount of cortisol and my DHEA was at low normal.

This is the list of all the STUFF I am doing/taking, if anyone is interested:

For adrenals:
  • Ashwaganda powder
  • Tea: ashwaganda root, eluthero (siberian ginseng) root, licorice root or ginger root
  • Trying to keep stress to a minimum other than that which needs to be brought up and out of me during talk/energy therapy which I hope to start in a month (for grief and trauma).
For thyroid:
  • natural dessicated thyroid, 90 mg/day (generic)
  • Iodoral or Kelp (iodine)
  • Selenium
  • yoga postures for thyroid
For gut:
  • minimum of 10 billion organisms of probiotics/day
  • GI Repair Nutrients by Vital nutrients (mostly amino acids)
  • Castor oil and heat on belly in evening 4-5x/week
  • Cod liver oil
  • No eggs for eight weeks
Other stuff
  • Fibroplex for musle aches
  • prenatal vit/mineral
  • B complex
There are probably a few I am forgetting but will add them when I can. Sounds like a lot (it is, to me) but for the short term, with healing on the horizon, it is worth it. Wish me luck!!!

I wish you much success with your doctor's help. Didn't you say she was familiar with NAET? I'm wondering if you would be able to do the NAET protocol for your allergies. Mine were gone with one treatment (for each allergen) and haven't come back. It's a 25 hour avoidance and then you can eat the substance again. You might want to ask her about it if she is familiar with the NAET protocol. My 40 year old cat allergy (the kind that sends me into the hospital) is no longer after two treatments. That's the only one that took two treatments!

I did "pollen" today. By tomorrow, if I "pass", I will no longer have an allergy to pollen. I've been so suspicious of pollen for a few years now because my symptoms and antibodies seem to spike in the spring. I haven't had but 20% of the symptoms I usually do this time of year and I'm started to get real excited!

Is the 4 weeks without eggs supposed to desensitize your body to the allergen or just remove the toxins from the exposure, thereby healing the gut easier? The probiotics sound like a great idea. I am going to be making raw Kefir again now. I have a raw milk source and once it is transformed into Kefir, it has a great population of good bacteria. I hope to start this week.

What natural dessicated thyroid are you going to take? I take Naturethroid.

How do you know your thyroid isn't too damaged? Did she do an x-ray? That is awesome news.

I can't wait to hear of your progress. Keep up the good attitude and thanks for posting all the good information. I know others will be pleased to see it too.

Take care!

Thanks, Mo!

I know she does do NAET, and maybe that is a possibility down the road, however my understanding is (which is limited   ) that my main goal is to heal the gut to keep the food from passing through in too large amounts which triggers the immune response/attack and in turn triggers the autoimmune attack on my thyroid. With eggs being the protein that passes through causing the most immune response, it is necessary to cut that out to minimize the immune response and allow me to work on healing my gut by doing all the other things I listed.

I believe that my thyroid is not beyond hope because my anti-Tg numbers are high as opposed to anti-TPO (which is usually raised later in hashi's). Also, my other thyroid numbers aren't too bad and when palpated, my thyroid doesn't seem to have any nodules.

I really feel that all the stress of the last few years (and childhood trauma) has taken a toll and caused the leaky gut, therefore causing the Hashi's. It is probably the fact that my diet is pretty good and that I caught this early that I'm not beyond hope (I am trying to stay positive   ).

I am taking generic thyroid because that is all I can afford and frankly, it has the same pharmacological compounds and thyroid as the expensive brands so I thought I'd try it.

Kefir is great! You've reminded me to make some raw milk yogurt today as I have been out for a week.

Mo, that must feel amazing to be ridding yourself of these lifelong allergies! I don't believe I have those kind of allergies (though have not been tested--just for food). You had some food sensitivities that were overcome by NAET, too, right?

Thanks for keeping me posted on your successes, too!!!

Yes! So far I've been cleared (meaning the food is no longer being rejected by my body and is no longer an allergen) for wheat, Vit. C., Amino Acids, watermelon, grains (all), animal fat, calcium, salt, and a LOT more). They start with the building blocks of a good diet (minerals and vitamins) that if they are allergens (they call sensitivities allergens because any sensitivity IS an allergen, it is just not full blown), you are not getting these things absorbed and your system is not getting nourished. Even in it's liquid form, your body understands the "toxin" and rejects it. This is why eliminating the allergy is of utmost importance. I believe it can be done in different ways but I have never found a simpler and pain free (emotional as well as physical) way than NAET. I am simply overjoyed at the success so far.

It can be a long process but it's certainly easier and more exciting than other methods of avoidance I've done (6 mos. gluten free, no wheat, no sugar, etc.) in order to give the body a rest. Twenty Five hours seems like nothing after that! Smiley It is absolutly amazing to see the results first hand.

I think this is such a journey experience though. We all need to put the pieces together for our own healing. How long have you had Hashi's again? Approximately? I get concerned I have too much damage for reversal but my doctor feels it can be done. This is really the first hope I've had. The last time I was hopeful was during my gluten free diet but that ended in disaster! I am also using EFT for my emotions which are an important part of healing.

Thank you for the update. Keep us posted on your progress!

Mo~

I'm so glad to hear you are feeling better everyday!

For me, it is really up and down. I cut out the eggs about 4 weeks ago and feel some improvement but there still seems to be something that is triggering my immune system to overreact and attack my thyroid (and who knows what else). This causes the uncontrollable anger and sadness and despair. Especially during the later part of my cycle (for the despair/sadness part). The anger seems off and on pretty much daily. That is the part I hate the most!

Other than that I continue to have several other symptoms (outside the normal hypo ones I've had) that appear to be signs of additional autoimmune diseases.

I realize that one autoimmune disease can lead to others just due to the nature of my body being in attack mode and eventually attacking other organs and such. This is such a frustration for me. Sometimes I feel at my wits end with this whole thing and feel like just burying my head in the sand (and just treating symptoms like most uneducated docs recommend)...but of course there is the rational person in me that says, "d*mn it, just get to the root of this so you can heal." But that is where the problem lies. What is the root cause???

Is it candida overgrowth or leaky gut (from other than candida)? Or is one or both of those so systemic that it can't be completely treated/healed because of something I'm continuously being exposed to--such as heavy metals...mercury from my amalgam fillings as another sufferer has recently suggested and that i have read about???

I just don't know, and that is the rub! I am going to ask about NAET at my next ND appt next month!

To answer your question, I have only KNOWN that I have Hashi's for two years, however, there were signs that I could have had it much, much longer. No way to know for sure, I guess.

Hello Janet,

Just wondering how you are doing. I think you are doing a great job "getting to the root" and I do realize how frustrating it is, believe me. But, don't give up! I, too, believe not finding the root cause has no positive road. We are forced, if we want to heal, to find the answers now.

Have you had your appt. this month and asked your doctor about NAET? I have felt so amazingly blessed to eliminate so many food allergies through this treatment. I highly recommend it for anyone suffering from obvious food reactions. If you feel worse after eating, it is a good sign your body is not absorbing the nutrition and warring against the food you are putting into your body.

Regardless of the root cause, it can't hurt to fight the things we can while we're hoping to learn the cause. I believe emotions have a ton to do with this disease - at least the symptoms can be affected by working with the emotions. I am so excited about EFT, I just can't tell you!

Let me know how you are doing when you can. Hope you are doing better this month.

Hello Mo and everyone~

Sorry I have been MIA for a while. I hope you are feeling well and having a nice summer.

I am trying my best to have a laid back, stress-free summer--as much as is possible. I have become really tuned in to the effects that stress has on my health. It is quite profound, really. Much of my "treatment" at this point is focused on healing my adrenal glands.

I asked my ND for more info on NAET as I had very little understanding of it from the website. She send me the book "Say Goodbye to Illness" which I just starting to read. I think I will have her try to eliminate my egg allergy first and if that seems to works, I may have her do others.

I have a question for you, Mo, regarding the "clearing" of an allergy. Aside from the muscle test to see if I am cleared (of which I am skeptical of), how else could I determine if I am free of the allergy. It is not an anaphalatic allergy so it's effects are not super obvious. I haven't eaten any for three months and much of the time I have been pretty healthy (many of the hypo symptoms gone).

It has been my understanding that the egg allergy was the major contributer to "leaky gut" which then led to the autoimmune attacks on my thyroid (Hashi's) and god-knows-what-else. So if I clear my egg allergy, I should be able to eat them without some passing through my intestinal wall and causing the attacks??? And how do I know for sure that is not happening??? ...other than eventually getting hypo symptoms again which would really set me back--and I DON'T want that!!!

I'm still so confused about all this. I wonder why my ND did not recommend NAET first, prior to doing the Food Allergy Panel and all the supplements to heal the gut? Maybe she is not that experienced? I'll ask her. There are so many modalities to healing in the alternative world that it becomes quite confusing as to which path to take. And most of them are quite expensive as well (another reason I am resisting NAET at this moment--but will try to get past that).

Until next time (which hopefully won't be as long as the last   ).

Thanks, Mo, as always!!!
Janet

Thank you so much for posting this article, Mo! It is very reassuring to hear about your experience with NAET, as well.

I'm seeing my very forward-thinking PCP in a couple weeks to get his take on things and then planning to see my ND in late September to talk about next step. It is nice to have a "team" to work with.

Hope your kitty is OK.
