Hi Spencersmom,

I'm sorry, I just got back from a long day awayfrom home. I will try to post something in the morning but it might betoo late for your doctor's appt.

My only thought at the moment(and it's late at night here so I'm not thinking very well) is that youmight do best taking a BIG breath, taking a step back and starting fromthe beginning. In other words, you might need to troubleshoot from anatural point of view.

What is your current diet?

Itsounds like there is quite a bit of stress going on in your life. EFTis a very powerful way to help connect your physical symptoms with youremotional ones and help to heal anything that is connected. I have beenso excited to find this connection. It is something you can startimmediately and might be worth more than the doctor at this moment.(until you get your insurance back)

If you haven't heard about EFT, here is the website:

http://www.emofree.com/

Ididn't really believe in it until I began to see how it worked. I'veknown for a long time that our emotional state has a role to play inour disease but never expected to be able to learn how to control it.It is definately worth checking out.

I believe I may have more input in the morning when I'm thinking better. I'm sorry I couldn't give more input.

HOpefully others might chime in.

Take care and hang in there.

HI Spencersmom,

I apologize for the short response yesterday. I haven't had much time to think this week. There is a lot going on in my life.

However, after re-reading your post, I did come up with a recommendation. The basis of any autoimmune disease is basically allergy. The body is acting as though it's "allergic" to itself and attacks its own gland (or other organ). Considering this root issue, I thought I'd give you something to think about. I mentioned EFT in my last post but at this point in time, I think it might be more important to consider the allergic responses in your body.

This means you might want to check out your diet and consider finding a specialist in NAET that can tell you if you are reacting to certain foods (even healthy ones). NAET is an allergy elimination technique that is simple and painless. It doesn't minimize allergy, it eliminates it. It is my experience that most Hashi patients have all types of allergies (from reading other's experiences and interaction on boards and such), including food, environment and sometimes even physical reactions to their emotions!

This journey is a long one. I have been seeking answers for over 14 years now. I am finally at the point of not having to go to the doctor all the time for this disease. I am taking the approach of NAET for the sake of trying to reverse Hashimotos and find an answer to it's cause. I am committed to this goal. Most doctors do not believe this is possible but I believe there is an answer.

Don't give up. If you are on any pain medications or other non-prescription over-the-counter drugs, don't forget to check out their side effects. I found that I was blaming my Hashimotos disease for symptoms that were actually from things like Advil cold and Sinus and other drugs that I felt I needed to "cover up" the symptoms of allergies. I since found out what the allergies were through a food journal and pretty much eliminated them by not eating them or coming in contact with pesticides in my foods, etc. However, I am taking a step further now and seeing great results in eliminating these allergies so in case I eat them or in the case of healthy foods I was allergic to (amino acids, Vit. C, wheat, animal fat, etc.), I can now eat them, and have no reaction! This is making my life more comfortable and hopefully getting closer to the root problem of my Hashimotos disease! The NAET consultation (somewhere in the $100 range depending on where you go) is able to give you a determination of what you are most allergic to while you are tested in their office. There are no further tests and judgments can be made immediately. You might find it a "breath of fresh air" after all you've been through!

In case you have never heard of NAET, here is the website:

http://www.naet.com/

Please let us know how your doctor's appointment went.

Mo,

Thank you for your reply. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, I have been on a whirl wind since my appointment. let me fill you in:<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I went to my appointment on Saturday and it was great! I was a mess when I went in. As soon as I laid down on the table and she put the needles in me (acupuncture) then started doing some energy work...my body started to tingle and IT FELT SO GOOD!!! I was in heaven, on cloud 9! My body needed to get the energy moving. I must add that I am really in tune with my energy (other peoples too).

So after the energy treatment she tested all my supplements on me. The was she does this is she turns out the lights and grabs the bottles of supplements one at a time (I brought her everything I was taking) and she holds them up to my body and reads my energy. My energy will either react positive or negative to. This lets me know what my body needs or what is not good for me.

Here is what we found:

The most surprising thing we found war that I reacted positive to Oregano Oil, which is a cure for yeast and fungus! Oh, that explained A LOT! All this time we both thought it was Hashi's or another virus that was throwing my body off and it was yeast/fungus! WOW we were both surprised. Later when I got home I looked up the symptoms of yeast/fungus overgrowth and I found that the symptoms very much mimic Hashi symptoms! I never knew.

The other thing that we found was that my body did not like the kelp supplements or Iodine drops. WOW, I had read several articles that endorsed iodine and kelp for Hashi patients so I was taking the supplement. However, I do have a book that suggests that iodine might be good for low thyroid but not for Hashi patients. The book is on thyroid and depression. So I dropped all kelp and iodine immediately.

Another thing I found was that my body reacted really good to Hoodia. I had a bottle in the cupboard that I was taking a long time ago when I was trying to lose weight. Now, i must tell you that the kind of Hoodia I took was organic and a extremely low dose, it was not the Hoodia that you see on TV for rapid weight lose. So anyway, my body really liked it so I have added it back into my daily regimen.

My doctor has suggested that I stay at the low end of Hydrocortisone and not go over 30mg a day, I am taking 20mg. We have kept my Armour at 1 grain but I am breaking it up into 1/2 at night and 1/2 in the morning, this really helps me get up in the morning. We are both concerned about my sleep though. I am going to monitor it closely and make sure I get proper sleep. If not I will try getting up in the middle of the night to take it (I get up every night to use the bathroom).

Here is my big adventure: after we found that I had yeast/fungus and I started taking the Oregano I noticed my body started expelling all sorts of gunk - for lack of a better word. My energy started coming back, my body was waking up but I could not help but feel I was not clean inside. So I have started the Master Cleanse. Have any of you done this? It's a cleanse where you only drink lemon juice, cayenne pepper, and maple syrup for 10 days. When my doctor first suggested it I thought she was CRAZY! But I'll try anything to feel better.

So I have embarked on this cleanse and it is not as bad as I thought. I am a person that eats every two hours, not big meals most of the time it is just snacks but I love food and I love to eat. Since my thyroid went down-hill I have gained 25 pounds (over three years). I have changed my eating habits since the weight gain but I don't diet much. I watch what I eat and make sure that it is healthy food that my body can use for energy.

I ma not as hungry as I thought I would be. I am noticing for the first time, the difference between cravings and hunger. I have not really been hungry but I have had cravings.

So if any of you are interested I will update you on how the cleanse is working for me.

Mostly I wanted you all to think about the fact that when we concentrate so much on our thyroid we could miss other things in our bodies that need attention. There are other things that can mimic thyroid symptoms.

I hope you all are well.

Take care,

Hi Heather~

I am happy to hear your appointment went so well! Thanks for the update--very interesting information. I hope you will continue to update us on your progress. I will be looking forward to more posts.

I, too, am concentrating on healing in areas other than just thyroid. Based on an allergy food panel and symptoms I've had, I am trying to heal my leaky gut which, due to stress and in addition to stress, I think is the cause of my Hashi's. I have been working hard on the stress piece as well and lack of sleep is a big problem for me.

Do I understand you correctly...when you take part of your thryoid dose in the evening you sleep better and wake up easier? I would love to hear more about this! At what time to you take the evening dose and when do you go to sleep and wake up...? I can use some help is this area!!!

I think a cleanse is a great idea. I never felt better than after I did a seven-day fast years ago. I would love to detox again but I am still breastfeeding. Please update us on how this is going as well.

Happy healing to you!
~Janet~

I too am delighted your appointment went well. I'd like to get more information on the splitting of your dose for sleeping purposes.

I am going to be out of town for a week but please, everyone, make use of the board! I want everyone to feel free to troubleshoot this disease as much as possible here.

I am thrilled we are all seeking the root cause for this disease and know that we will find it. I love it that we are all searching in different areas. Over time, I know this will bring us the answers we are looking for.

Have a wonderful week and I'll check all the posts on the weekend.
